Mughal-e-Azam, directed by the distinguished Feroz Abbas Khan, is a spectacular stage production of K. Asif’s timeless epic movie of the same name. This world-class theatrical production from India has been proclaimed as the first Indian Broadway-style musical.

The musical swept the Broadway World Awards in 2017, bagging 7 of the 14 awards, including the Best Indian Play & Best Director. The play has set a new benchmark for Indian theatre, be it the extravagant sets or the Mughal era costumes by Manish Malhotra, the breathtaking choreography by Mayuri Upadhya or the live singing by the lead actors. The play chronicles the timeless love story of Prince Salim who openly declares his love for a lowly court dancer, Anarkali, and who leads a rebellion against his mighty father, the Mughal Emperor Akbar, who disapproves of their relationship.

This epic love story was beautifully told on celluloid over 60 years ago and is the hallmark of Indian cinema today. The stage version is mostly faithful to the K. Asif classic, complete with lavish sets, colourful costumes, flowery verses, soulful music, brilliantly choreographed dance sequences. Sublimely orchestrated by its distinguished Director, Feroz Khan, it creates a rich and immersive theatre experience.
